cottage food producers
kbot: [There are 11,000+ registered cottage food producers in Minnesota](www.mda.state.mn.us/food-feed/cottage-food-data). Most are very, very, very low revenue. They are not 'starting a business', they just like cooking food for the community.
Starting August, 2027, it will be legal for these producers to ship their food anywhere within Minnesota. So, here's a few thoughts on software for this:
- It'd be neat to have an open-source solution for browsing and marketing their foods
- If shipping doesn't become legal until August, 2027, that gives nearly 2 years to get a site up and running
- We could let all the food producers know since all their addresses are [public information](www2.mda.state.mn.us/webapp/lis/default.jsp)
The only place I know to find these cottage food producers currently is Facebook Marketplace, which leaves a lot to be desired. how do we do this in Minnesota, but actually public, open-source, community driven?
ace: I would love to start a conversation with current cottagiers(?) and foodbuyers that basically sums to "what about Facebook works for you? What don't you like? What would you need to switch to a free alternative?"
