How things are, as I see it

  • Cyberia Computer Club was created as a social group.

    • A legal entity was created to handle finances and to formalize a structure in order to mitigate the issues that can come up in large groups.

    • Services were built to support Cyberia.

      • The primary service, Capsul, was successful enough that it was effectively 'spun off' as a separate entity.

        • Capsul continues to donate hosting services to Cyberia to this day.

  • Layer Zero was built as a space for Cyberians in the Twin Cities area to be able to gather and do things in person.

    • Layer Zero has found success even among those that are more interested in the physical space of LZ than the digital space of Cyberia.

  • Cyberia and Layer Zero both exist as only vaguely separate entities.

    • Any distinction between them may have made more sense at one point, but is presently confusing.

How I conceptualize things

  • Cyberia is the global social community.

    • It is governed by the Cyberia Congress.

    • Day-to-day operations are handled by volunteers. (It is a do-ocracy.)

    • Cyberia's digital existence flows directly from the willingness of Forest and j3s to maintain it.

  • Layer Zero is the physical space for Cyberians in the Twin Cities.

    • All members of Layer Zero are Cyberians.

    • LZ is governed by those who regularly show up.

    • Day-to-day operations are handled by volunteers. (It is a do-ocracy.)

    • Layer Zero, due to it's nature, requires money to maintain it.

      • It's existence, at present, flows directly from the willingness of Forest to pay for it.

What I'd like to see

  • The community and structure of Cyberia to continue to exist and to be put to use.

  • The physical space of Layer Zero to continue to exist and be put to use.

  • Cyberia Computer Club as the legal entity, which pays for Layer Zero from donations it receives.

  • Layer Zero to be managed by what would currently be called a "branch" in Cyberia's structure.
